Rukn ud Daula Lake is located in Hyderabad India, The lake is named after Musa Khan, Nawab Rukn ud-Daula, The 10th Prime Minister (1765–1775) of The Nizam, Mir Akbar Ali Khan Sikander Jah, Asaf Jah III of Hyderabad Deccan.[1]
Nawab Rukn ud Daula was also known as a step father of Mahalaqa Chanda, Mahalaqa Chanda was one of the first women to publish a book of poetry in Urdu and sponsor a historical chronicle of Mahnama of the period covered by the reign of Nawab Mir Nizam Ali Khan Siddiqi Bahadur Asaf Jah II and had established a cultural centre for 300 girls.[2]

The clean water from the lake was used for drinking by the Nizam's and their family, It was specially filled in barrels and sealed in the presence of Daruga (Special officer appointed for the inspection of food for Royal Families and Royal Guests), and then carried in bull carts to the Chowmahalla Palace.
The original size of the water body was close to 104 acres. Over the last few decades it had shrunk the lake significantly and even polluted the water. With the present encroachment, the lake is likely to shrink by another 10-12 acres.[3]
